North Carolina native Emily Turner has been a choral conductor and music educator for fourteen years. Since 2016, she has served as the Vocal Music Director at Cary Academy, directing both the Middle and Upper School mixed choirs, grades six through twelve. In addition to teaching multi-level choirs, Emily serves as the Music Director for the school’s productions, and has taught a variety of electives, including Songwriting, Audition and Performance Preparation, and Musical Theater Performance Workshop.

Emily also serves as the Artistic Director of Capital City Girls Choir (CCGC), succeeding the organization’s founder and her choral mentor, Dr. Fran Page. CCGC is a three-tiered, auditioned community choir for treble singers ages nine through high school senior. Under her baton, the Cantabile Singers of CCGC performed at the Oregon Bach Festival in 2019 and look forward to a European tour of Germany and Austria in the summer of 2022.

Prior to her position at Cary Academy, Emily served as a high school choral director for Wake County Public Schools for nine years and also served as a NC High School All State District Rehearsal Coordinator for six years. She served as the Director of Music Ministries of Saint Andrews United Methodist Church in Raleigh for nine years.

Emily holds the Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Appalachian State University where she was the recipient of the Pedigo Scholarship in Voice. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education with a concentration in Voice from Meredith College.

Emily loves to travel as a guest conductor and clinician to work with local schools and churches and is certified as an adjudicator for middle school Music Performance Adjudication (MPA). Emily has served the NCMEA Middle School Choral Board since 2018, first as Secretary, and currently as Chair-Elect.

Emily lives in Raleigh with her husband, Kyle, and their son, Benton. When not immersed in choral music, Emily and her family enjoy neighborhood walks with plenty of stops for dog petting, tweaking and perfecting their chocolate chip cookie recipe, and driving absurd distances for the perfect cup of coffee.
